Shihan John van Weenen to teach SKA Open Day

Shihan John van Weenen OMT MBE, 8th Dan, is the guest instructor for the SKA Open Day, which will take place on Sunday 20th October, from 12 noon to 5pm, at Southbury Leisure Centre. Shihan van Weenen was one of the originators of Shotokan Karate in Europe. He started learning karate in Australia in 1963, returning to England in 1966 and forming one of England's first clubs, based in Enfield, Middlesex. He is the author of a collection of definitive works on Shotokan Karate including the UK’s best seller, The Beginners Guide to Shotokan Karate. During his 50 year karate career, Shihan has taught many thousands of students, some of whom have gone on to form their own associations and are today chief instructors in their own right. This is a great opportunity to train with one of the founders of English karate.
